ISLAMABAD – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday, August 2, for his first official visit to Pakistan, the Foreign Office confirmed on Friday.
President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and top officials. The two-day visit, scheduled from August 2 to 3, is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
During his visit, President Pezeshkian will hold bilateral talks with PM Shehbaz and also meet with President Asif Ali Zardari. These engagements are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation across political, economic, cultural, and religious spheres.
According to Iranian Presidential Adviser Mehdi Sanai, the agenda also includes meetings with prominent cultural figures and business leaders in Pakistan. “The ties between the two countries go beyond politics and span economic, religious, and cultural dimensions,” Sanai shared in a post on X earlier this week.
Strengthening provincial and border cooperation, and increasing bilateral trade — currently around $3 billion — are among the key priorities of the Iranian delegation.
This visit follows Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s trip to Pakistan in April 2024, just weeks before his tragic death in a helicopter crash. Pezeshkian’s trip was initially scheduled for late July but was later pushed to early August.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also visited Iran in May this year to attend Raisi’s memorial and earlier met Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and other senior officials during a bilateral visit focused on regional peace, trade expansion, and connectivity.
Both countries have repeatedly emphasized the importance of closer strategic cooperation and continue to express solidarity over key international issues, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
