Gilgit team apologizes to skardu team ; Jashan-e-Azadi polo match to resume tomorrow

GILGIT: The disrupted Jashan-e-Azadi Polo Tournament 2025 match between Gilgit and Skardu will resume tomorrow after the Gilgit team formally apologized to the Skardu side for the incident that halted play on Wednesday.

According to tournament officials, the match was suspended following a brief altercation on the field that led to concerns about sportsmanship and discipline. The Gilgit team, in a gesture aimed at preserving the spirit of the centuries-old polo tradition in the region, issued a public apology to the Skardu players and management earlier today.

The organizing committee confirmed that both teams have agreed to continue the match from the point where it was stopped. Officials praised the swift reconciliation, noting that maintaining harmony among regional teams is vital for the tournament’s success.

Local spectators and polo enthusiasts welcomed the decision, expressing hope that the remainder of the event will proceed in a competitive yet respectful manner.

The resumed match is scheduled for tomorrow at the Gilgit Polo Ground, where a large turnout is expected as part of the ongoing Jashan-e-Azadi celebrations.
