Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced the launch of three new Bachelor of Science programs—BS E-Commerce, BS Psychology, and BS Political Science—under its Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The new degrees were approved during a recent Faculty Board meeting chaired by Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean of the faculty. The board also endorsed updated curricula for undergraduate, MPhil, PhD, and other postgraduate courses, ensuring alignment with current academic trends and industry needs.
In an official press statement, AIOU highlighted its commitment to enhancing learning opportunities for students while maintaining Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies and quality standards. Dr. Sahir reaffirmed that the university continues to follow Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood’s vision of offering accessible, modern, and relevant education.
The meeting also reviewed curriculum reforms, including the incorporation of Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi courses, already made compulsory across all degree programs. In the future, AIOU plans to introduce courses on regional languages to promote Pakistan’s cultural and linguistic diversity.
Additionally, Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak presented the proposed Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025, which will streamline policies for both on-campus and distance learning students. These proposals received unanimous approval and will now be forwarded to the Academic Council and Executive Council for final endorsement.
