ISLAMABAD, July 25, 2025 – Rescue teams on Thursday recovered the body of Colonel (Retd) Qazi Ishaq, whose car was swept away by flash floods in a seasonal drain connecting Sector 4 and Phase 7 of a private housing society in Islamabad last week.
The search for his missing daughter is still underway.
The tragic incident unfolded when the father-daughter duo’s vehicle was carried away by strong floodwaters after heavy monsoon rains. Eyewitnesses reported seeing both signaling for help, but the swift current prevented any rescue attempt.
Days of Relentless Search Efforts
A joint rescue operation involving the Pakistan Army, PDMA, Rescue 1122, and local authorities began immediately. However, despite round-the-clock efforts on Tuesday and Wednesday, the two could not be located.
On Thursday morning, rescue teams resumed their mission with renewed hope. Later in the afternoon, they recovered the vehicle’s door and bonnet beneath the Soan River bridge, indicating the probable location of the victims.
After further excavation, Colonel Ishaq’s body was found beneath the bridge connecting the housing society’s Sector 4 and Phase 7.
Search Continues for Daughter
Rescue teams remain stationed in the area, focusing on deeper sections of the drain and nearby riverbanks to find the missing girl. Officials believe the lowered water levels will improve recovery chances.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of more rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan in the next 12 hours.
Heavy rain is expected in upper KP, GB, the Pothohar region, and northeast Punjab, which could trigger localized flooding and disruptions.
In contrast, southern Pakistan will continue to experience hot and humid weather.
