ISLAMABAD: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed outside his Mumbai residence during an attempted burglary in the early hours of Thursday and is currently hospitalized, Indian media reported.
Mumbai police confirmed that Khan is out of danger. “He is being treated and is out of danger,” senior police officer Gedam Dixit told Reuters.
The Pataudi family released an official statement following the attack, as reported by Filmfare. “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. This is a police matter, and we will keep you updated on the situation.”
Khan’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, also issued a statement through her team: “There was an attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence last night. Saif sustained an injury on his arm and is currently undergoing a procedure at the hospital. The rest of the family is safe. We request the media and fans to refrain from speculation, as the police are actively investigating the case. Thank you all for your concern.”
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer of Lilavati Hospital, where Khan is being treated, confirmed that the actor sustained six stab wounds, including two deep ones. A small foreign object was identified close to his spine, though it did not affect his vital organs.
According to NDTV, Dr. Uttamani stated that Khan was attacked by an unidentified person at his Bandra home and was brought to the hospital at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Sources at the hospital told Hindustan Times that one of the wounds was particularly deep, requiring 10 stitches. The source also indicated that Khan was injured while attempting to thwart the robbery.
Recent reports suggest that three suspects have been detained by Bandra police in connection with the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for any additional perpetrators.
The attack has sparked concerns about security, with film stars and opposition leaders calling for stricter safety measures.
“If such high-profile individuals with security can be attacked in their homes, what could happen to common citizens?” questioned Clyde Crasto, spokesperson for the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party, on messaging platform X.
Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also voiced her concerns, advocating for a stronger police presence in the area. “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before,” she wrote on X, referring to Bandra’s reputation as a hub for Bollywood celebrities.
Police investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as the case develops.
