ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to launch construction of the Rs. 1.4 billion T-Chowk Flyover, a project aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion at the GT Road–Islamabad Expressway junction.
Only two firms submitted bids, with Habib Construction Services (HCS) in partnership with ZKB offering the lowest bid – 2% below the CDA estimate. The other bidder’s proposal was more than 11% higher. Officials confirmed the winning bid will be forwarded for approval before construction orders are issued.
The project, spanning 570 meters, will provide direct access to motorists traveling from Lahore to Islamabad and include a slip road for those heading back towards Lahore.
Although the official plan gives five months for completion, CDA engineers say the work could finish in just three months if construction progresses rapidly.
CDA Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza said the flyover will significantly improve traffic flow, benefiting an estimated 100,000 motorists daily. He added that the scheme is vital for realizing the full potential of the signal-free Islamabad Expressway.
Meanwhile, the CDA is gearing up to finalize financial bids for the Rs. 1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk underpass project. Once approved, the underpass will ease congestion at the busy Ninth Avenue–Khayaban-i-Iqbal corridor, home to several offices and educational institutions.
The authority has also revived plans for a major infrastructure upgrade – the extension of Margalla Road from GT Road to Motorway I.
