The Capital Development Authority (CDA) hosted a high-level Ethiopian delegation at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad, to mark the launch of the ‘Plant Fraternity’ initiative, a joint effort to strengthen climate cooperation and deepen bilateral relations.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and the Human Resource Development Network (HRDN), brought together diplomats, CDA officials, and a large number of youth who actively participated in the plantation drive.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Ethiopian Ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change despite its low contribution to global carbon emissions. He said the initiative represents a gift from Ethiopia under which the country will share its successful Green Legacy Programme, spearheaded by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
The Ambassador noted that Ethiopia has planted more than 41.2 billion seedlings over the past six years, addressing challenges like land degradation, food insecurity, unemployment, and poverty.
CDA’s Director General Environment, H.E. Awais Tarar, praised the initiative and reaffirmed CDA’s commitment to enhancing afforestation in Islamabad through community-driven plantation campaigns. HRDN CEO Robeela Bangash stressed the importance of youth involvement in tackling climate change, urging young Pakistanis to take ownership of tree-planting and climate resilience efforts.
The ‘Plant Fraternity’ initiative not only strengthens Pakistan-Ethiopia ties but also represents a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.
