Four suspected RAW operatives arrested in Karachi for spying on military and CPEC

In a significant security operation, Karachi police’s Special Security Unit (SSU) and intelligence agencies arrested four individuals allegedly linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) during a targeted raid in the Quaidabad area of Malir.

According to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the suspects—identified as Muhammad Khan Bariyo alias Guloo, Akhtar, Jameen Mullah alias Jaman, and Ghulam Qadir alias Akash—were involved in spying on critical sites, including military and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) infrastructure.

SSP Muhammad Shoaib Memon revealed that the main accused, Muhammad Khan, a resident of Sujawal, had been in communication with an Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officer, Colonel Ranjeet, since 2009. The suspects allegedly provided sensitive data, including photos, personnel movement, and geo-tagged details of military installations via WhatsApp using encrypted apps and geo-tagging software.

During the raid, police recovered mobile phones containing direct contact with the Indian officer—referred to as “Boss”—as well as a Pakistan Army training manual, adding weight to the espionage allegations.

The SSP disclosed that the arrested men had been supplying intelligence about Bin Qasim Town’s military deployments and naval facilities in Sujawal, including weapon types and shift timings. He suggested that the group might have been involved in planning a large-scale terrorist attack, although investigations are still underway.

Incriminating evidence including four hand grenades, a Kalashnikov, two pistols, Indian liquor and cigarettes, and a snatched vehicle were also recovered. The suspects allegedly used the sea route to cross from Sujawal into India and received compensation for their espionage activities.

All suspects are now facing charges under anti-state provisions, and their mobile devices have been sent for forensic analysis to further trace their network.
