SIALKOT – Female teachers in Sialkot will soon receive free electric bikes to help with their daily commute, in a scheme supported by the local business community and backed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of empowering women educators.
Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali said applications were invited earlier this month, with more than 650 teachers applying before the August 10 deadline. The program is designed to provide safer and more convenient transport options while also promoting clean energy.
Eligibility criteria included an age limit of 35 years, with both permanent and contract teachers allowed to apply. Priority was given to widows, divorced women, and those serving as the sole breadwinners for their families.
To ensure fairness, the bikes will be distributed through a computerized ballot.
Earlier, during Independence Day celebrations, 14 female teachers received e-bikes with the support of local donors. Officials noted that the initiative would not only solve mobility challenges for women but also reduce environmental pollution by encouraging the use of electric transport.
