Govt launches first-ever mobile command unit in Islamabad for Muharram security

In a first for the capital, Islamabad has rolled out a signal-free mobile command unit to boost surveillance and ensure public safety during Muharram. This innovative control room, which can operate without mobile signals, is equipped with drone support and advanced tech to monitor processions and gatherings in real time.

The initiative was launched under the special direction of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and forms a key part of the government’s comprehensive security plan for the holy month.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry visited the central Imambargah Asna Ashari in G-6, where they personally reviewed the arrangements and inspected the mobile control room set up by Islamabad Police.

Speaking to reporters, Talal Chaudhry shared that 1,762 personnel, including 350 traffic officers, have been deployed across the city to manage security, especially at four major entry points. He assured that foolproof safety measures are in place to protect mourners and participants in Muharram processions and Majalis.

He also noted that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency is actively monitoring online platforms to flag and respond to hate speech and inflammatory content during this sensitive time.

IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi gave a full briefing on the city’s security strategy. According to the plan, mourners traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad on 9th Muharram and returning on the 10th will be closely monitored. The setup includes sector-wise coordination, CCTV surveillance, and joint operations between law enforcement and community volunteers.

Senior officials including Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, DIGs, and SPs were also present during the visit to oversee final preparations.

With cutting-edge tools and coordinated teamwork, the city is aiming for a safe, peaceful, and respectful Muharram observance for all.
