In a big leap toward cleaner industrial practices, International Steels Limited (ISL) has officially powered up a 6.4 megawatt solar energy facility at its main manufacturing site—marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s shift toward greener industry.
Commissioned and completed in just under a year, the solar plant is now supplying renewable electricity directly to ISL’s factories and offices. The facility is expected to generate over 8 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, helping the company cut down on fossil fuel use while reducing its environmental impact.
ISL CEO Samir M. Chinoy called the project a key part of the company’s long-term vision. “This is more than just an energy solution—it’s a reflection of our commitment to climate responsibility and building a resilient, future-focused industrial ecosystem,” he said.
The new solar setup is expected to cover a significant portion of ISL’s power needs, cutting its carbon emissions by thousands of tons every year—the equivalent of the annual carbon footprint of more than 3,000 average households. On top of that, the switch will help the company dodge rising utility bills and power outages, giving it more control over costs and energy security.
This step also fits squarely into ISL’s growing focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. By integrating renewable energy into its operations, ISL is proving that heavy industry and environmental care don’t have to be at odds.
The project supports several of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy, innovation in industry, responsible production, and climate action.
As industries around the world move toward cleaner operations, ISL is leading by example in Pakistan, showing how energy innovation can fuel both business growth and environmental care. With this solar power milestone, ISL is sending a strong message: the future of industry lies in clean, reliable, and responsible energy.
