iOS 26 will freeze FaceTime if nudity is detected—even for adults

Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 update is packed with sleek new features—from a fresh Liquid Glass design to big improvements in Messages, Wallet, and CarPlay. But one unexpected addition has grabbed attention for a very different reason: FaceTime may now freeze your video call if it detects nudity.

Originally introduced as part of child safety tools, this feature was designed to protect minors from explicit content. Apple stated that it would blur sensitive images in shared albums, block explicit media, and now even pause FaceTime calls when nudity is detected—initially meant only for child accounts.

However, according to a report from iDeviceHelp, the iOS 26 beta shows this feature also affecting adult users. During testing, FaceTime automatically froze both video and audio feeds when nudity was detected, then displayed a warning screen with options to either resume or end the call.

Apple says that all of this scanning happens locally on the device using on-device machine learning, meaning no photos or videos are sent to its servers. Still, the move has stirred debate. Some users are raising privacy concerns, calling it an overstep—especially if it applies universally, not just to minors.

So far, Apple hasn’t clarified whether this is a bug or a deliberate feature for all FaceTime users. As the release of iOS 26 approaches, many are watching closely to see how Apple addresses these concerns.
