Iran questions Nobel consideration for Trump after U.S. aggression

ISLAMABAD: In a fiery and urgent press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, condemned the recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities by the United States and Israel. He declared these strikes a blatant violation of international law and asserted that they were part of a broader campaign targeting not only Iran but the entire Muslim world. The ambassador also voiced astonishment over reports suggesting former US President Donald Trump is being considered for a Nobel Peace Prize, calling the idea shocking and unjustified.

Amiri Moghadam questioned how a person like Trump, who openly supported the Zionist regime even in its defiance of the two-state solution and ignored Congressional advice, could be considered a candidate for a peace award. He stated that Trump’s actions, especially his support for Israel during its brutal campaign in Gaza, disqualify him from any recognition tied to peace efforts.

The Iranian envoy described Israel as a de facto American military base in the region. He pointed out that despite not being a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Israel launched an attack on Iran, a full NPT member, using Iran’s peaceful nuclear program as a pretext. He said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has verified Iran’s program as peaceful on 15 separate occasions, yet the Zionist regime targeted Iranian nuclear scientists and military commanders, prompting a firm response from Tehran.

Ambassador Moghadam emphasized that Israel was unable to endure even ten days of Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks, which he described as a demonstration of Iran’s indigenous defense capability. He warned that further aggression would be met with a response in line with the UN Charter and said Iran would not hesitate to strike American interests worldwide if they continue supporting Israeli actions.

He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, including electricity generation, and that it would continue despite provocations. He said Iran was grateful for the widespread support it has received from the Muslim world, particularly from Pakistan, which condemned Israeli aggression early on and reaffirmed its support for Iran at the United Nations Security Council. The ambassador thanked the Pakistani government and its political leadership for standing by Iran in these critical times.

While discussing the broader implications of the conflict, the Iranian envoy said the current aggression is not just against Iran but a calculated move by the US and Israel to destabilize the entire Islamic world. He called for unity in the Muslim Ummah and expressed confidence in Iran’s eventual success. He confirmed that Iran had not requested weapons from any country but is fully prepared to fight a prolonged war, relying on its military strength and national leadership.

Responding to a question about the possibility of Trump receiving the Nobel Prize, he reiterated that it would be astonishing, given Trump’s repeated support for the Zionist state, including during mass killings in Gaza. He referenced the deaths of 60,000 children in Gaza and questioned how anyone responsible for such devastation could be celebrated with a peace award.

On the topic of espionage, Amiri Moghadam revealed that several individuals had been arrested inside Iran for spying, including some Iranian nationals, and that drones and weapons were recovered from them. He also touched on reports of a meeting between Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir and Donald Trump, choosing not to comment in detail but noting it reflected bilateral relations between the two countries.

He noted that BRICS member states have condemned Israel’s recent aggression, and he expressed hope that Russia would continue to support Iran in the future as it has in past diplomatic efforts. He said Iran’s nuclear commission is actively investigating the aftermath of US strikes to ensure civilian safety in case of future emergencies.

Concluding his remarks, the ambassador stated that the war initiated by the US and Israel aims to fragment the Muslim world, but Iran is committed to resisting these efforts and defending its sovereignty. He affirmed that Iran’s leadership, military, and people are united and ready to endure a long conflict if necessary, while working to keep the broader Muslim world safe from the fallout of this escalating confrontation.
