ISLAMABAD — In a major move to address rising traffic congestion and road accidents, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has imposed a strict ban on the entry of heavy vehicles, overloaded trucks, and loader rickshaws into the federal capital.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider, who said the initiative is aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing public safety across Islamabad.
“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against traffic violations,” said CTO Haider.
To ensure compliance, the ITP has deployed additional traffic personnel at major roads and intersections. Violators will face strict action, including fines, impoundment of vehicles, and legal proceedings.
The ITP has also ramped up enforcement of common traffic offenses such as:
Overspeeding
Signal violations
Lane indiscipline
Illegal parking
Furthermore, the police force is expanding drone surveillance across the city to monitor traffic in real-time and catch violators instantly.
This crackdown is part of ITP’s broader effort to promote road discipline, reduce accident rates, and improve commuting experience for Islamabad residents.
