Islamabad to kick off T Chowk flyover and Shaheen Chowk underpass projects in September

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has finalized plans to launch two major road infrastructure projects in the capital next month, aiming to ease traffic congestion on some of Islamabad’s busiest routes.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters. Officials confirmed that groundbreaking ceremonies for both projects will take place in the first week of September.

The T Chowk Flyover, a Rs. 1.4 billion project, will be built at the junction of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway, one of the busiest entry and exit points of the city. Once completed, the flyover is expected to significantly improve traffic flow for commuters traveling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the Shaheen Chowk Underpass, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.3 billion, is designed to resolve traffic gridlocks at Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal/Margalla Road. The area sees heavy daily traffic due to nearby government offices and educational institutions.

Under the construction plan, vehicles on Khayaban-i-Iqbal will move underground, while the top slab of the underpass will provide a direct link between Ninth Avenue and the service road.

CDA officials emphasized that both projects are critical to tackling growing traffic challenges in Islamabad and will be executed with fast-track completion timelines.
