Islamabad’s Saidpur Village to be transformed into international-standard tourist hub

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that Saidpur Model Village will be developed into an international-standard tourist and commercial hub, complete with modern facilities for visitors.

On his directives, a large-scale anti-encroachment operation has been launched in the historic village, targeting unauthorized constructions raised on 360 kanals of land after 2005. Several illegally occupied buildings, including those where rent had not been paid for years, were vacated as part of the drive.

The minister personally visited Saidpur to review the crackdown, as well as the beautification and upgradation projects already underway. He instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and District Municipal Administration (DMA) officials to take strict action against all illegal structures without discrimination. He further directed that vacated properties should be auctioned transparently.

Naqvi also revealed plans to bring well-known restaurants from Karachi and Lahore to Saidpur Village in order to boost its attraction for tourists and locals alike. He said the revival of the area will not only add to the capital’s beauty but also provide citizens with a vibrant new recreational destination.

During the briefing, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa informed the minister that satellite imagery is being used to identify post-2005 illegal constructions, while efforts are also underway to restore the village’s green core area. Senior CDA members, ADCG, SSP Operations, and other officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
