LAHORE — One of Lahore’s major heart hospitals has officially been renamed the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, marking a significant shift in both identity and vision. The change, approved by the Punjab Cabinet, was confirmed by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.
Previously known as the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, the hospital will now operate independently from Jinnah Hospital and function under its own autonomous board. This transformation aims to give the facility more flexibility in delivering specialized cardiac care.
Officials say the renamed institute isn’t just about a new title — it reflects an ambitious plan to modernize heart treatment in Punjab. The hospital will be equipped with the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence systems and robotic surgery tools, to meet global standards and offer advanced heart care under one roof.
Looking ahead, the facility also hopes to attract international patients by promoting health tourism. The goal is to turn Lahore into a destination for world-class cardiovascular treatment, benefiting both the local healthcare system and the economy.
The new name has already been entered into the provincial budget and government records, symbolizing a new era for cardiac healthcare in the region — one tied closely to the political leadership behind it.
