Murree enforces Section 144, limits Independence Day entry to families only for three days

MURREE – Authorities in Murree have announced strict security measures for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, imposing Section 144 for three days and restricting access to certain areas to families only.

According to a notification from Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, the order will be in effect on August 12, 13, and 14, 2025, covering Mall Road and GPO Chowk. The move aims to maintain public order, prevent overcrowding, and ensure safety during the holiday period.

The decision follows recommendations from the District Intelligence Committee, which met on July 30 and assessed the potential risks posed by large gatherings.

Under the order, violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Officials said the restrictions are designed to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment during the celebrations, which traditionally draw large numbers of visitors to the hill station.
