Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad to assess the shifting regional situation following Israel’s recent attacks on Iran.
According to sources, the committee reviewed the fallout of the Israeli aggression and expressed deep condolences to the Iranian government and people over the loss of innocent lives. Prayers were also offered for the swift recovery of the injured.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s clear stance, the NSC voiced serious concern over the escalating tensions after Israeli strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22. The committee called these attacks a violation of IAEA resolutions, relevant international laws, and the UN Charter.
The statement highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to staying closely engaged with all sides and continuing efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
The NSC urged all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy in line with the UN Charter and underlined the importance of respecting international human rights and humanitarian law.
Strong condemnation was directed at Israel’s aggressive actions, which the committee said came at a time when Iran and the US were pursuing constructive talks. Pakistan warned that such irresponsible steps only fuel regional tensions and risk triggering a wider conflict, undermining chances for peaceful negotiation.
The committee also affirmed Iran’s right to self-defense under the UN Charter.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had called the NSC meeting for Monday at noon, which was attended by the defense minister, interior minister, deputy prime minister, and top civil and military leadership.
Insiders added that the meeting included detailed discussions on the Iran-Israel-US situation, and that Field Marshal Asim Munir briefed the committee on his recent visit to the United States.
