The newly constructed Nawaz Sharif Flyover in Rawalpindi, located at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road, is now open for public use, even though the official inauguration by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is still pending.
Built at a cost of Rs. 2.3 billion, the flyover is part of a larger Rs. 4.38 billion infrastructure upgrade that also includes two underpasses and a pedestrian walkway along Mall Road. While those components are still closed, the early opening of the flyover is expected to bring significant relief to commuters in one of the city’s busiest traffic zones.
Local authorities said the decision to open the flyover before the formal ceremony was taken to ease congestion and improve traffic flow for the public. They acknowledged that the official event had to be delayed due to scheduling constraints but emphasized that public convenience took priority.
Citizens have welcomed the move, noting that the flyover is already reducing travel times and easing bottlenecks at Khawaja Corporation Chowk. Once the underpasses and pedestrian path are operational, the project is expected to further improve road safety and traffic movement.
The flyover marks a key milestone in Punjab’s wider initiative to modernize urban infrastructure and address traffic woes in growing cities like Rawalpindi.
