In a potential relief for electricity consumers across Pakistan, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Monday concluded a public hearing on the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) for the fourth quarter of FY 2024–25.
If approved, consumers could benefit from a reduction of up to Rs1.80 per unit in their power bills for the next three months, as per details shared during the hearing.
NEPRA Chairman Waseem Mukhtar presided over the session, which saw active participation from officials of the Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G), representatives from the Ministry of Energy, business community, journalists, and members of the general public.
According to NEPRA, all stakeholders were provided ample opportunity to express their views. The CPPA-G stated that power distribution companies (DISCOs) had requested relief worth Rs53.393 billion under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
If the proposal is approved, the Rs1.80 per unit adjustment would be applicable to all consumers of DISCOs and K-Electric, excluding lifeline users, prepaid meter holders, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
NEPRA said a final verdict will be issued soon after a thorough review of the data presented.
This move comes at a time when consumers across the country are burdened by inflation and rising living costs, and would mark a rare instance of downward adjustment in electricity bills.
