No interview or apology in Brussels, ISPR rejects journalist’s claims

Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has dismissed claims that the Army Chief gave an interview or offered an apology during a Brussels event, stating that the report was a case of personal publicity by a senior journalist.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, DG ISPR clarified that the article by journalist Suhail Warraich misrepresented the event. “It was a public gathering where hundreds of people took photos. The Army Chief did not give any interview, nor was there any mention of PTI or an apology,” he said.

He emphasized that those responsible for the May 9 incidents must face the law. “This was an attempt for personal promotion. It is unfortunate that even senior journalists act irresponsibly,” he remarked.

When asked if legal action would be taken against the media outlet, the DG ISPR said institutions must act wisely. “The media should understand that this is not appropriate,” he added.

DG ISPR further said Pakistan is a country that can reshape the region’s destiny, which is why it faces repeated attacks. “India thought it could discredit the Pakistan Army through terrorist proxies, but the opposite happened. Pakistan responded strongly, and their proxies were discredited instead.”

He stressed that Pakistan fought enemies on both external and internal fronts, proving its resilience. However, he regretted that the 2014 decision by all political parties to eliminate terrorism completely has not been fully implemented.

He added that the expulsion of illegal Afghan residents involved in crimes is essential, but some political and criminal actors create hurdles. “Full implementation of the 14 points of the National Action Plan is necessary,” he said.

The Army spokesperson concluded by saying that governance gaps are being filled daily by the sacrifices of security forces. “Pakistani youth are our true strength,” he added.
