Torrential rains in Sindh, including Karachi, have caused massive disruptions in mobile and internet services, leaving thousands of users disconnected. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), more than 2,500 telecom towers went offline due to the storm.
PTA officials confirmed that 1,800 towers were restored within 24 hours, bringing services back to most areas of Karachi. However, teams are still working to restore connectivity in other parts of Sindh.
The outages occurred largely due to power failures and hardware damage caused by the downpour. PTA has directed local authorities to ensure a timely power supply to telecom sites to prevent prolonged blackouts in the future.
“Efforts are underway to bring the remaining towers back online, and the regulator is in close contact with local administrations to speed up recovery,” PTA sources added.
The situation highlights the growing vulnerability of digital infrastructure to extreme weather events, raising concerns about climate resilience and emergency preparedness in Pakistan.
