Pakistan Customs to deploy AI for faster, transparent trade clearance

Pakistan Customs is set to undergo a digital transformation as the government introduces AI-powered systems to replace traditional manual verification, aiming to make trade more transparent, efficient, and business-friendly.

Officials revealed that the reforms are designed to minimize administrative delays, align with international best practices, and provide greater facilitation to importers and exporters. The initiative also seeks to boost trade competitiveness while strengthening government revenues.

The meeting emphasized that successful implementation of the AI-driven framework would require close coordination among all relevant institutions under a unified national strategy. Improving ease of doing business, attracting foreign investment, and promoting exports remain core objectives of the government’s reform agenda.

Key measures include introducing faceless customs assessments, empowering independent officers to handle appeals, and ensuring a fair, transparent dispute resolution process. Authorities are also working on enhanced port planning to cut clearance times and speed up the delivery of goods.

With these reforms, Pakistan aims to not only modernize its customs operations but also reinforce its reputation as a reliable partner in global trade.
