ISLAMABAD – July 29, 2025: Pakistan is gearing up to host its first-ever National Digital Summit on August 7, a landmark event aimed at accelerating the country’s transition into a regional digital and technology hub.
The summit is being organized by the GSM Association (GSMA) — a globally recognized organization representing mobile network operators and technology innovators — and will bring together leading voices from the public sector, private tech industry, and regulatory bodies.
Key participants will include:
Federal Finance Minister
IT and Telecom Minister
PTA Chairman
Senior officials from the Ministry of IT
Representatives from major local and global tech firms
The event is being seen as a major milestone for Pakistan’s growing digital economy, which now includes over 195 million mobile users and a booming internet population. Pakistan also ranks among the top freelance IT exporters globally, having contributed over $3 billion in IT exports in the 2023–24 fiscal year.
Strategic discussions at the summit are expected to focus on:
Enhancing digital infrastructure
Scaling up 4G and 5G networks
Supporting local startups
Promoting digital financial inclusion
Advancing policy reforms for a sustainable digital ecosystem
The GSMA’s involvement further adds weight to the summit, as it is a global leader in promoting mobile innovation, connectivity standards, and tech policy advocacy. Its collaboration is expected to facilitate cross-border partnerships and encourage international investors to consider Pakistan as a growing tech destination.
The summit also follows a string of recent actions by the Ministry of IT, including steps to curb cyber fraud, regulate call centers, and enhance national cybersecurity preparedness.
