Pakistan wins historic LATAM Cup, claiming first international ice hockey title

Pakistan made history by clinching its first-ever international ice hockey championship, winning the LATAM Cup Division III title in Florida, USA. The men’s team dominated Peru 6–1 in the final, completing the tournament unbeaten, while the women’s squad secured bronze in their debut appearance.

The victory is a milestone for a sport still in its infancy in Pakistan. Last year, the men’s side managed just one win in their first LATAM Cup outing. This time, they roared back with five consecutive victories before sealing the gold in emphatic style against Peru.

Head coach Dr. Kameron Sabir, a Canadian physician of Pakistani origin, hailed the achievement as “an amazing day for the country and ice hockey,” praising both the men’s and women’s teams. “You can’t do better than this—first gold, first cup. And hats off to the women; they did such an amazing job in their first tournament,” he said.

The 2025 LATAM Cup featured 62 men’s, women’s, and youth teams from 17 countries and territories. Analysts have called Pakistan’s triumph a watershed moment that could open doors to investments in rinks, facilities, and even future Olympic qualification.

For now, Pakistan celebrates its ice hockey breakthrough—a golden triumph that fans hope will inspire the next generation to dream on the ice.
