Pdma forecasts monsoon rains in Punjab from August 13, issues flood advisory

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast the next spell of monsoon rains from August 13 and issued a flood advisory for major rivers and their adjoining streams.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, the advisory covers the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, as well as nearby nullahs, warning of possible flooding during the seventh spell of monsoon rains. Water levels in major rivers are expected to rise.

Commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant provincial departments have been directed to remain on high alert. Departments placed on standby include local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock, and transport.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed authorities to complete all preparations in advance, as per the Punjab Chief Minister’s orders. He directed that emergency control room staff remain on duty round-the-clock and Rescue 1122’s disaster response teams stay fully alert.

The public is being advised to avoid swimming in rivers, canals, and ponds, and to cooperate with authorities in case of emergency evacuations. Citizens can report emergencies by calling PDMA’s helpline 1129.
