PM Shehbaz expresses unwavering support for Saudi Arabia and Qatar amid regional tensions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia and Qatar as concerns mount over the escalating security situation in the Middle East.

On Tuesday, the prime minister held separate meetings in Islamabad with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy and Qatari Ambassador Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater. These discussions followed the recent missile attack on a United States military base in Qatar — an incident that has deepened tensions across the region.

In his exchange with the Saudi envoy, PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to stand by the Kingdom during these testing times. He conveyed his best wishes for King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasising that Pakistan will continue to work alongside Saudi Arabia for lasting regional peace through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.

Taking to social media, the prime minister wrote, “Pakistan remains resolute in its support for the brotherly people of Saudi Arabia and will always stand by them.”

In a separate engagement with the Qatari ambassador, PM Shehbaz extended solidarity with the people and leadership of Qatar following the strike on the US base. He assured that Pakistan remains deeply concerned about the situation and advocates for restraint from all stakeholders.

“Pakistan has always championed dialogue and diplomacy as the only pathway to peace in the Middle East,” he posted on X, reaffirming Islamabad’s call for calm and de-escalation.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Shehbaz had also spoken with both envoys soon after news of the missile attacks broke, underscoring Pakistan’s deep concern and urging immediate steps to reduce hostilities.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office issued a statement condemning any violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging all sides to respect international law and exercise maximum restraint.

These developments come amid Israel’s announcement that it has accepted a US-brokered ceasefire proposal with Iran, although Tehran has publicly denied agreeing to any formal truce, labelling the reports as misleading.
