Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Sentenced to 10 Years in May 9 Vandalism Case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sargodha has handed a 10-year jail sentence to Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, MNA Mohammad Ahmed Chattha, and several other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers in a vandalism case linked to the May 9, 2023 riots.

Bachar was absent from the courtroom when the verdict was announced.

The case, registered in Mianwali, pertains to violent protests that erupted after the arrest of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in a corruption case. The May 9 riots saw attacks on military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, leading to widespread condemnation and legal action against PTI supporters.
