Punjab government to give Rs. 100,000 reward for converting petrol bikes into electric

LAHORE – July 29, 2025: In a major step toward environmental sustainability, the Punjab government has announced a cash reward of Rs. 100,000 for individuals who convert their petrol motorcycles into electric vehicles. The incentive is part of the government’s broader Green Credit Program, aimed at curbing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly behavior among citizens.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb made the announcement on Monday, highlighting the government’s focus on clean energy, green transportation, and urban afforestation.

Under the Green Credit Program, participants can also earn credits for planting trees and switching to energy-saving LED lighting. Citizens are encouraged to register through the initiative’s official portal to begin earning these rewards.

In line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s green agenda, the province is ramping up tree plantation efforts under the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign. Notable initiatives include:

Free delivery of saplings to Lahore residents via helpline 1399

Planting 300,000 trees along Ring Road

Launch of Australian-style digital tree monitoring, ensuring each tree is tagged and tracked

Aurangzeb also revealed that encroached forest lands have been reclaimed and a tech-enabled fire control force will be formed in collaboration with the Bank of Punjab.

Addressing environmental concerns, the minister said improving air quality in Lahore remains a top priority. Seven air quality monitors have already been installed under the Punjab Air Quality System, with smog control as a key focus area.

The government urged citizens to actively participate in this green transition by taking advantage of the new programs and incentives available.
