Punjab government is set to launch the much-awaited E-Taxi Scheme 2025, a green transport initiative designed to reduce pollution, create jobs, and empower women drivers.
In a bid to promote sustainable mobility, the Punjab government will roll out 1,100 interest-free electric taxis in the first phase. These locally assembled eco-friendly vehicles, produced by Dewan Motors, will not only reduce fuel costs but also support the local EV industry.
A special fleet of 30 e-taxis will be exclusively reserved for women drivers, ensuring safer travel options and encouraging more women to join the workforce. This move highlights the government’s commitment to inclusive public transport and women’s economic empowerment.
To support the scheme, a network of EV charging stations will be set up across the province, making it easier for drivers to charge their vehicles without hassle. Special consideration will also be given to women, persons with disabilities, and rural residents to ensure equal participation.
Officials say the initiative will help cut carbon emissions, lower transport costs, and create new employment opportunities. The Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025 is expected to be a major step toward a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive transport system.
