Security forces foil major cross-border attack, eliminate 30 terrorists in North Waziristan

In a major security operation near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Pakistani forces successfully thwarted a large-scale infiltration attempt, eliminating at least 30 militants trying to enter the North Waziristan district.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incident took place during the nights of July 1st and 2nd, when troops spotted a suspicious movement near the Hassan Khel area. The group, reportedly backed by external hostile elements, was intercepted before it could cross into Pakistani territory.

In what was described as a swift and precise response, Pakistani troops engaged the infiltrators, neutralizing all 30 of them. Security personnel also recovered a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and ammunition, likely intended for future attacks.

Officials said the soldiers demonstrated “remarkable vigilance and professionalism” and potentially averted a major disaster. The military has urged Afghan authorities to ensure that their soil is not used for cross-border aggression or as a safe haven for militant proxies.

This confrontation comes shortly after a devastating attack in the same region that claimed the lives of 13 Pakistani soldiers. In that incident, militants reportedly used an explosive-laden vehicle in a failed attempt to strike a security convoy, but were intercepted before reaching their target. Even so, the vehicle was rammed into one of the leading units, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.

Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has vowed to bring all those involved in such acts—whether planners, supporters, or facilitators—to justice. “We will not rest until every thread of terrorism is dismantled,” he asserted.

Pakistan has seen a noticeable rise in cross-border attacks in recent years, especially after the change of regime in Afghanistan in 2021. The volatile situation in border provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan continues to test the country’s resolve.

Recent data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reveals a slight uptick in militant activity in May 2025 compared to the previous month. Yet despite the pressure, security forces have remained proactive in containing the threat and preventing further escalation.
