During her appearance on the June 25 episode of GOAT Talk by Complex, global music and film star Selena Gomez shared a nostalgic glimpse into her childhood. Speaking alongside fellow artist Karol G, Gomez revealed that her very first celebrity crush was none other than rap legend Ice Cube.
“I had the biggest crush on him when I was about five,” the Calm Down singer and Rare Beauty founder admitted. “It’s so weird, but I just thought he would protect me. I’m only saying it based on my childhood.”
Karol G, for her part, named Eminem and Nicki Minaj as her favorite rappers. Interestingly, Gomez also had a deep admiration for Eminem growing up. “One of mine was Eminem,” she said. “My dad was a DJ and used to remix all kinds of songs. Every time it was an Eminem track, I’d get so excited.”
The heartfelt conversation came amidst Gomez’s ongoing romance with music producer Benny Blanco, to whom she became engaged in December 2024. While the couple is not actively planning their wedding yet, sources close to the pair note that they are enjoying their engagement and focusing on taking things one day at a time.
