Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the continuation of the Workers’ Remittances Incentive Scheme, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting overseas Pakistanis who play a vital role in strengthening the national economy.
Chairing a meeting on remittance inflows, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately release funds for the incentive scheme on a priority basis, ensuring timely facilitation for those sending money back home.
“Overseas Pakistanis are our strength and the backbone of our economy. Their hard-earned remittances significantly contribute to Pakistan’s progress, and the entire nation deeply values their sacrifices,” PM Shehbaz said.
Record Remittances in FY2025
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that during the fiscal year 2025, overseas Pakistanis achieved a historic milestone by sending $38.3 billion in remittances.
This record inflow played a key role in achieving a current account surplus for the first time in 14 years, helping Pakistan:
✅ Pay off a rising import bill
✅ Strengthen foreign exchange reserves
✅ Support economic stability amid global challenges
Govt to Remove Barriers & Improve System
The Prime Minister said the government is actively removing hurdles in the remittance process, making the system more efficient, transparent, and easier for overseas workers and businessmen.
“We are ensuring that hardworking Pakistanis abroad can send money home seamlessly, contributing to the country’s economic growth,” he added.
The continuation of the Remittance Incentive Scheme reflects the government’s broader strategy to recognize the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora while enhancing the country’s economic resilience.
