Tax professionals warn FBR over delayed return form and IRIS glitches ahead of Sept 30

Tax professionals have raised alarm over the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) delay in issuing this year’s income tax return form and persistent glitches in its IRIS online filing system, warning that the situation could create chaos for taxpayers ahead of the September 30 filing deadline.

In a joint statement, tax consultants and accountants said that while taxpayers are required by law to file their returns by the end of September, the return form still hasn’t been made available, leaving little time for compliance. They also noted that the IRIS platform — FBR’s official online filing system — continues to face outages, slow processing, and frequent technical errors, frustrating users.

Experts have cautioned that if the issues are not addressed immediately, thousands of taxpayers may face penalties for late submission through no fault of their own. They urged the FBR to release the forms without further delay and ensure the IRIS system runs smoothly, especially during peak filing days.
