Islamabad: In a major political development, three prominent Gilgit-Baltistan leaders — former minister for Planning & Development, Tourism, Culture and Sports Raja Nasser Ali Khan, former speaker of the GB Assembly Syed Amjad Zaidi, and former minister for Local Government Abdul Hameed — on Friday formally announced their decision to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The announcement was made during an important press conference, where the leaders expressed confidence in the PPP’s policies and future direction for the region.
Raja Nasser Ali Khan had previously been elected as an independent candidate from GB-10 (Skardu). Abdul Hameed was also returned as an independent from GB-A 23 (Ghangche), where he defeated PTI candidate Amina Ansari.
Syed Amjad Zaidi, who earlier served as speaker of the GB Assembly, was elected from GB-A 11 (Kharmang) on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket.
PPP leadership welcomed the new entrants, terming their inclusion a positive addition ahead of the next political cycle. Further details regarding the trio’s political role and the party’s future strategy are expected to be shared in the coming days.
