Unity among Muslim nations is vital, says Iran’s president in meeting with Naqvi

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed deep gratitude to Pakistan for its unwavering support during the recent 12-day conflict with Israel. In a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday, Pezeshkian emphasized that unity among Muslim countries is “indispensable” to counter external attempts to create division.

He highlighted that Israel was deliberately trying to sow discord among Islamic nations and stressed the need for stronger diplomatic engagement, mutual understanding, and closer cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. Pezeshkian praised the current level of bilateral ties and said there were even greater opportunities ahead for collaboration.

“Pakistan stood by us during a difficult time, and we will never forget that,” the Iranian president said, underscoring how Islamabad condemned the Israeli strikes at every forum.

In response, Minister Naqvi congratulated Pezeshkian on what he called a “great victory” and reminded him that Pakistan’s parliament was the first to pass a resolution condemning the war imposed on Iran. He reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance in supporting Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense.

The meeting comes just weeks after the devastating conflict that erupted on June 13, when Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran’s military, nuclear, and civilian sites, killing at least 606 people and injuring over 5,300. Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel, leaving 29 dead and more than 3,400 wounded. The United States also bombed multiple Iranian nuclear facilities, claiming to have crippled its nuclear program.

The fighting ended with a US-brokered ceasefire on June 24. However, tensions remain, particularly over Iran’s nuclear issue. Tehran announced that its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “will take on a new form” after accusing the UN watchdog of being partly responsible for the June attacks. Iran maintains it is not seeking nuclear weapons and insists on finding a diplomatic path forward.
