WhatsApp tests voicemail feature for missed calls in latest beta update

Tech Desk: WhatsApp is testing a new voicemail-style feature that lets users leave audio messages after a missed call. The update, spotted in Android beta version 2.25.23.21 by WABetaInfo, introduces a more seamless way to communicate when calls go unanswered.

With the new option, users making a WhatsApp voice call that isn’t picked up will see three choices: “Record voice message,” “Call again,” or “Cancel.” Tapping the record button allows the caller to instantly leave an audio message without switching back to the chat window.

The same “Record voice message” option will also appear in the chat of the missed call recipient, making the process quicker and more intuitive compared to manually sending a voice note.

The feature could be especially useful in urgent situations, giving callers a faster way to pass on important information. While WhatsApp already supports traditional voice messages, this streamlined update eliminates extra steps.

For now, the voicemail-style feature is only available to select Android beta testers, and WhatsApp has not yet confirmed a wider release date.
