WhatsApp is set to make group conversations a lot more organized with a new threaded replies feature, similar to what users experience on apps like Slack and Discord. The feature is currently in development and will soon be available on both iOS and Android platforms.
🧵 How it works
The upcoming update will allow users to reply to individual messages in separate threads, helping to keep chats clearer — especially in busy group conversations.
Here’s what to expect:
Each message will show a reply counter, indicating how many responses it has received.
Tapping on that label will open a new view, where all replies to that specific message are grouped together.
Users can read and send responses within the thread without losing context.
AI-generated or system replies will be clearly marked with a watermark.
This threaded format will prevent messages from getting lost in a sea of chatter and will allow participants to follow specific conversations within a group more efficiently.
🚀 Rollout and availability
The feature was recently spotted in version 25.19.10.80 of WhatsApp’s iOS beta on TestFlight. It has also appeared in WhatsApp beta for Android, confirming that it’s being developed for both major platforms.
Though not yet available to the public, the feature is expected to roll out to beta testers soon once it’s deemed stable enough for wider use.
This enhancement reflects WhatsApp’s growing focus on improving user experience in large group chats — making it easier to keep up with conversations without scrolling endlessly or losing track of who replied to what.
