‘X’ faces global outage; no ban in Pakistan, confirms PTA

ISLAMABAD: As the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced a global outage affecting multiple countries — including Pakistan — the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified that the platform has not been blocked within the country.

The outage, which left users unable to log in or post content, was reported globally and tracked in real-time by Downdetector, a network monitoring service operated by Ookla, which provides connectivity intelligence and measures network performance through tools like Speedtest.

This is the second significant disruption reported this week, following a similar outage on Thursday, May 22, which lasted for several hours before service was restored by the platform itself.

In a statement, PTA confirmed that its investigation found no technical issues at Pakistan’s internet gateways.

“All other internet services across the country remain fully functional,” the authority stated.

Independent global internet observatory NetBlocks also confirmed that the disruption is international in nature and not due to any country-level interference or filtering.

PTA added that it is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates to the public as necessary.
