ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), under the dynamic leadership of Chairman CDA, and in line with his vision to digitize the capital, has taken a major leap forward in reshaping Islamabad’s urban infrastructure with the launch of its Smart Parking System, a move that has been widely praised by both the public and civic stakeholders.
The initiative is aimed at digitizing the parking experience across key areas of the city, improving convenience for citizens while also helping the authority boost revenue collection, sources said.
According to sources, the Smart Parking project is part of CDA’s broader vision to transition the federal capital into a digitally enabled, smart city. The objective is to replace outdated manual systems with modern, tech-driven solutions that enhance service delivery, and reduce inefficiencies.
To implement this project, CDA partnered with AJCL Pvt. Ltd., a leading firm in technology integration and urban solutions. The company has successfully deployed a state-of-the-art Smart Parking System at several high-traffic locations, including the Centaurus Parking Lot, F-7 Markaz, and Diplomatic Enclave, which has contributed significantly in increasing the revenue for the authority, with further expansion underway.
The newly introduced system allows citizens to pay parking fees through multiple payment channels including digital wallets, debit/credit cards, and a dedicated mobile application, eliminating the need for cash. To further promote financial inclusion and ease of use, digital vouchers have been introduced allowing for the conversion of cash into electronic tokens for digitization of transactions, allowing convenience in paying the parking fees ensuring that the system remains accessible and user-friendly for all segments of the public whilst also enhancing transparency and security.
Sources confirmed that this shift toward digital transactions has already resulted in improved operational efficiency and greater transparency in parking fee collection.
The initiative has been well-received by the public. Many users have applauded the CDA for adopting technology to ease daily routines, noting that the digital parking experience is faster, more reliable, and secure.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the Smart Parking System has not only streamlined traffic flow at major commercial and public hubs but also provided the CDA with enhanced visibility into parking site performance and transaction data, allowing the authority to monitor and manage operations more effectively.
According to sources, CDA intends to utilize the revenue generated from Smart Parking sites for the uplift and development of various Marakaz across Islamabad, focusing on improved infrastructure, cleanliness, and public amenities
This project is being hailed as a model for public-private collaboration, where innovative thinking and strong execution are delivering real value to the public. It also demonstrates the CDA’s growing focus on smart city infrastructure, aligning with global urban development trends.
As Islamabad continues to grow and modernize, initiatives like the Smart Parking System stand as a testament to CDA’s commitment to technology-driven urban management offering both improved citizen services and sustainable revenue models.
