Khushhali Microfinance Bank Wins Two PMN Awards

Khushhali Microfinance Bank Limited (KMBL), Pakistan’s pioneering microfinance bank, received the “Best Turnaround Microfinance Bank” and “Best Housing Finance MFB” awards at the Pakistan Microfinance Network’s 10th Annual Microfinance Conference (AMC-X). The Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN) organised the AMC-X conference in collaboration with UNIDO under the EU-funded PAIDAR programme.

The honours reflect KMBL’s momentum in driving financial recovery, marked by reduced risk, stronger institutional fundamentals, and expanded support for affordable financial services including housing finance, microenterprise and agriculture financing.

“These two awards reflect the commitment and focused efforts of every member of the KMBL team,” said Aameer Karachiwalla, President & CEO. “Our turnaround has been driven by a strategic effort to de-risk our balance sheet, reduce cost of deposit, improve collection & portfolio quality, and by diversifying our lending book. We have invested in technology to enhance credit underwriting capabilities, established a robust loan verification function and deployed specialized teams to strengthen collection and recovery efforts. These initiatives have helped us build a stronger, more resilient institution. I would like to mention that the way our teams responded to these changes and helped build a strong bank has been marvelous.”

Khushhali Microfinance Bank: Strong Operational & Financial Turnaround

The Best Turnaround Microfinance Bank award highlights KMBL’s decisive financial recovery in FY2025, moving from a loss of Rs. 3.6 billion in FY2024 to a pre-tax profit of Rs. 4.0 billion in FY2025, a total swing of Rs. 7.6 billion. Key portfolio risk indicators improved significantly, and Portfolio at Risk (PAR90) declined from 6.2% to 3.8%.

Championing Low-Cost Housing Finance

Low-cost housing remains a strategic priority for KMBL in 2026. Following its recognition as the Best Housing Finance MFB, the bank maintained strong momentum, achieving a 47% growth in borrowers and expanding its housing portfolio by 56% during the year.

Demonstrating strong lending execution, KMBL reached Rs. 21 billion in total housing & home improvement disbursements (as of September 2026).

Leveraging its institutional capacity in mortgage finance, KMBL has actively driven government-backed housing subsidy schemes:

  • Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar (2021): Disbursed 2,103 loans totalling Rs. 3,313 million.
  • Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Scheme: Approved 437 loans and disbursed approximately Rs. 945 million to low-income households as of September 2026.

These honours reinforce KMBL’s commitment to building a resilient institutional foundation while advancing financial inclusion across Pakistan.
