PM Shehbaz Approves Global-Standard Digital Ecosystem for FBR to Boost Tax Reforms

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the creation of a modern, internationally compliant digital ecosystem within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enhance transparency, efficiency, and tax collection.

Chairing a high-level meeting on FBR reforms, the Prime Minister also directed the hiring of internationally renowned experts to design and implement the digital framework.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, FBR Chairman, Chief Coordinator Musharraf Zaidi, economic experts, and senior officials.

According to the briefing, the new system will centralize FBR’s data and allow real-time monitoring of the entire value chain, from raw material production and imports to manufacturing and final consumer purchases.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that digitization alone was not enough—a complete, integrated ecosystem is needed to transform FBR into a globally competitive revenue authority.

“The system should be effective enough to monitor the entire value chain digitally in real time, ensuring transparency and better decision-making,” the Prime Minister said.

He also stressed that the centralized data collected through this system must be used for strategic economic decision-making, helping policymakers better understand revenue patterns and plug leakages.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that reducing the tax burden on ordinary citizens is only possible by expanding the tax base and eliminating the informal economy.

The government aims for this transformation to help strengthen Pakistan’s economic outlook, improve investor confidence, and ensure sustainable revenue growth.
