PTI protests enter second day, life in twin cities disrupted

STAFF REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The ongoing protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have entered their second day, causing widespread disruptions in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Daily routines have been severely affected as the main routes connecting the two cities remain closed.

Educational institutions in both cities have been directed to remain closed today as a precautionary measure. Major thoroughfares, including the Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road, are entirely blocked, bringing traffic to a standstill. Heavy police contingents have been deployed at various points to maintain order, while entry and exit routes of the twin cities are under strict surveillance.

Businesses along Murree Road have also remained shut for the second consecutive day, further compounding the challenges for residents. The road closures have created severe difficulties for commuters, particularly those needing to reach hospitals. Ambulances and emergency vehicles face significant delays, leaving patients stranded.

Residents of nearby areas are also facing inconvenience due to the barricades, with some neighborhoods virtually cut off from essential services. The ongoing protests have disrupted the supply chain of fruits, vegetables, chicken, meat, and dairy products, leading to shortages in local markets.

Additionally, the Metro Bus Service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi remains suspended, leaving thousands of daily passengers without transportation. With no resolution in sight, the protests continue to impact all aspects of life in the twin cities.
