Federal review meeting stresses efficient use of PSDP funds

STAFF REPORT

ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting convened on Friday reviewed the first-quarter progress of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2024-25. The session evaluated the performance of various ministries in implementing development projects under the government’s broader initiative to ensure accountability and transparency.

Key ministries and divisions, including National Food Security, Health Services, National Heritage, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Petroleum Division, and SUPARCO, presented updates on their PSDP projects. During the first quarter, the federal government authorized Rs155 billion for ministries and divisions under the PSDP framework.

Emphasis was placed on completing ongoing projects within the stipulated timelines outlined in PC-1, with sufficient funding allocated to prevent delays. Ministries were urged to reprioritize resources, reallocating funds from projects with zero expenditure to accelerate active ones. The importance of avoiding duplication and ensuring fiscal prudence was also highlighted, given limited financial resources.

The meeting underscored that all spending must deliver maximum impact, contributing meaningfully to Pakistan’s economic and social development. The review outcomes will guide future budget allocations and policy refinements, aligning projects with national priorities to enhance their tangible outcomes.
