KARACHI: Rear Admiral (Retired) Shahid Ahmed Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military), Sitara-i-Basalat, has assumed charge as Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT).
According to an official announcement, Mr. Ahmed, who served in the Pakistan Navy for 36 years, brings extensive experience in maritime and port management. He was commissioned in the Operations Branch of the Navy in July 1988 and has held a range of command, staff, and operational positions.
His previous appointments include Commander Force Protection Brigade, Commander 301 Creeks Brigade, Naval Provost Marshal (Karachi), Director Marines and Special Services Group (Navy), and Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters. He also served as Company Commander at Punjab Regimental Centre, Mardan, and Commanding Officer of both the Creeks and Air Defence Battalions.
Mr. Ahmed represented Pakistan in joint coalition operations in the Horn of Africa (Djibouti).
Before his appointment to KPT, he served as Director General (Operations) at the Port Qasim Authority (2021–24) and held additional charge as Managing Director of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority. He also headed the Maritime Works Organization at Bahria Foundation in 2025.
Mr. Ahmed is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, and NDU Washington. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and The Nautical Institute (UK).
