ISLAMABAD: The COMSATS Employees Welfare Association (CEWA), Islamabad, has urged the Chancellor, the President of Pakistan to immediately appoint a permanent Rector from the three candidates duly recommended by the Senate in its Special Meeting held on August 20, 2025.
CEWA expressed deep concern over the prolonged leadership vacuum as CUI is being run by Interim Rector since July 2023. The CEWA emphasized that continued reliance on acting arrangements has weakened institutional governance, reduced efficiency, and adversely impacted the morale of faculty, officers and staff.
CEWA strongly opposed any further adhoc arrangements, underscoring that only a permanent Rector, vested with full authority and mandate, can effectively lead the university in the best interests of its stakeholders. The Association further emphasized that the appointment of a permanent Rector is crucial to addressing other interim positions of principal officers and Campus Directors, thereby restoring stability and continuity in institutional leadership.
The CEWA also highlighted the long-pending 39th Selection Board for non-faculty officers, which remains unresolved despite repeated assurances. CEWA called for its immediate conclusion and placement before the Syndicate without further delay, terming the prolonged postponement unjust and discriminatory. It further stressed the importance of initiating both faculty and non-faculty selection boards simultaneously to ensure transparency, merit, and timely resolution of promotions.
Reaffirming its commitment, CEWA stated that it will continue to uphold the principles of merit, stability, and good governance while safeguarding the rights of employees across COMSATS University Islamabad.
