Dinosaurs dominate as Jurassic World: Rebirth crushes July 4 box office

Dinosaurs have once again roared to the top of the box office. Jurassic World: Rebirth, the newest chapter in the iconic dino franchise, made a thunderous debut over the July 4th weekend, pulling in a massive $91.5 million across North America, according to industry estimates.

Starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, the film transports audiences back to an eerie, abandoned island—once the home of the original Jurassic Park. As expected, it’s crawling with genetically altered dinosaurs and buried secrets just waiting to be unleashed.

“This is a fantastic start for the seventh film in a globally loved action-adventure series,” said David A. Gross from Franchise Entertainment Research. “The franchise has always performed exceptionally well overseas, and this one is no different. After all, dinosaur thrills need no translation.”

Trailing behind in second place was F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt as a former Formula One star chasing one last shot at glory. The film earned $26.1 million this weekend after a strong opening.

In third place was the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, which brought in $11 million. A nostalgic reboot of the 2010 animated hit, the story follows a young Viking, Hiccup, and his unlikely friendship with a dragon named Toothless.

Pixar’s latest original film Elio landed in fourth with $5.7 million. Featuring the voice of Zoe Saldana, the movie tells the whimsical tale of a young boy mistaken for Earth’s ambassador by a group of aliens.

Rounding out the top five was 28 Years Later, the long-awaited zombie sequel from director Danny Boyle. The third installment in the cult horror series earned $4.6 million, revisiting the aftermath of the Rage Virus decades after the original outbreak.

It was a weekend packed with action, nostalgia, and sci-fi—proving that whether it’s dinosaurs, dragons, racers, or zombies, there’s still plenty of cinematic magic drawing crowds to theaters.
