Kuwait scraps income requirement for family visit visas in major entry reforms

Kuwait has officially abolished its minimum income requirement for expatriates applying to bring family members on visit visas, marking a significant policy shift aimed at promoting inclusivity and stronger family ties.

Col. Abdulaziz Al Kandari of the General Residency Department’s Electronic Services Administration confirmed that the change removes the long-standing condition requiring foreign residents to earn a set salary before sponsoring relatives. Under the revised rules, any legal resident in Kuwait can invite family members, regardless of their income.

The scope of eligible visitors has also been broadened. Relatives up to the fourth degree of kinship and in-laws up to the third degree can now be invited, going well beyond the traditional immediate family circle.

In another major change, the requirement for visitors to arrive exclusively via Kuwait’s national airline has been scrapped. Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al Yousuf has ordered that visitors may now enter through any airline, as well as via land or sea routes.

Officials say these reforms are designed to streamline procedures, enhance accessibility, and strengthen social bonds among residents and their loved ones, reflecting Kuwait’s broader commitment to openness and community support.
