Quetta International Airport’s newly rebuilt runway has earned the FIDIC Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award, highlighting Pakistan’s growing expertise in aviation infrastructure.
The runway, reconstructed at a cost of around PKR 5 billion, is now considered one of the longest and strongest rigid-runways in the region. Remarkably, the project was completed without shutting down airport operations, showcasing exceptional planning and execution.
The award was presented in Islamabad, recognizing the Pakistan Airports Authority and the project’s consultancy teams for their technical innovation, safety standards, and efficient delivery.
The upgraded runway became operational on 31 May 2023, marked by the landing of PIA Flight PK‑3250 from Islamabad, a milestone for the airport and the region’s connectivity.
